After a two-year break, we invite you to discover the Lithuanian canyons of Mars again. Such are the quarries of Naujoji Akmenė for us. Join us on this space journey where the most vital attribute of an astronaut’s outfit will be hiking boots. Here you will find mountains reminiscent of other planets and unbelievably large machines, sometimes weighing as much as 720 tons.
As a matter of fact, the quarry landscape is constantly changing, and in the two years passed, it has managed to expand even more, which means even more hiking, that sometimes, it seems, is on the edge of the abyss. So on this hike, three different quarries and three different routes are presented to you: 19, 30, and 38 km. Pick one of them and go down to this space hike odyssey!

ROUTE INFORMATION
Coming up from the start area, you will reach the expanded Karpėnai quarry, which will become your primary object of research. And the gigantic digging machines of this quarry have managed to find themselves in different places in the two years – so it will open up to you from entirely different angles. Of course, one of the most impressive is the excavator, which weighs as much as 720 tons. So on this route, you will be constantly accompanied by a unique quarry landscape that is not seen anywhere else in Lithuania.
When you come up from the start area, you will find what the hiker who has chosen any of these routes will see – the expanded Karpėnai quarry and the huge excavation machines that have changed their positions. However, if one quarry is not enough for you, then by choosing this route, you will also have the opportunity to explore the Menčiai limestone quarry and even more excavation machines that are stunning in size. So the unique industrial atmosphere will accompany you throughout the hike.
When you come up from the start area, you will start the lengthiest odyssey of this hike. Here you will find both the expanded landscape of the Karpėnai quarry and the Menčiai limestone quarry and, of course, their impressive excavating machinery, weighing incomprehensible amounts. Not only that, you will be the only one of all the hikers to reach the renewed and arranged sand quarry of Alkiškiai, which will look like a true oasis in this canyon trip to Mars. So we do no doubt that this route will give you the most cosmic impressions.
