See, Hear and Feel the Waking Nature in Tytuvėnai
The first spring hike will turn your gaze upwards and lift your spirits! In a country rich in man-made and natural resources, we will observe one season change another. After welcoming spring, we will admire the towers of the 400-year-old Tytuvėnai monastery, the heritage of the famous Romer family, and after satisfying our cultural hunger, we will admire the hilly pine forests and picturesque lake shorelines.
We will take on the roads walked by the pilgrims on the 26th of March, having chosen the 11 km, 23 km, 38 km, or 50 km with the Medical SPA “Eglės Sanatorija“ challenge.
ROUTE INFORMATION
11 km: starting your introduction to Tytuvėnai from the masterpiece of sacral architecture – the church and monastery ensemble famous for its impressive frescoes and elegant courtyards, you will continue to admire the natural heritage. You will move along the winding shoreline around the mysterious Bridvaišis lake, the depth of its uneven bottom ranges from 1 to 42 meters, and later you will be presented with the shores of another Tytuvėnai lake – Gilius. Your eyes will be delighted by the beautifully overgrown slopes, sprawling swamps, and the greenish-blue water.
23 km: if you are a lover of history, you will not hesitate to stop to see the territory of the homestead of Pašakarnis manor located on this route, which was once submerged in flowers and is only alive today in memories. Very close to it, you will see the highest place in Tytuvėnai – the observation tower located on Majakas Hill, which offers a panoramic view of the swamps turned into peat bogs – Pašakarnis Pond, and even the Šiluva Church famous for its miracles. The most curious will be able to culminate the hike at the Forest Museum, which will allow you to familiarize yourself with the forest birds, insects, animals, and their way of life.
38 km: After walking by the lakeshore of the legendary Bridvaišis, you will stroll along the picturesque tracks and paths of Tytuvėnai Regional Park. From time to time, you’ll see rusty stretches of narrow-gauge railroads reminiscent of the trains that once rumbled here. You will have the opportunity to see one of the ten greatest swamps in Lithuania – Tytuvėnai peat bog. The natural monument, which began to form more than 10,000 years ago, is famous as the kingdom of birds, where thousands of migrating winches gather every year.
50 km with the Medical SPA „Eglės Sanatorija“: by choosing the long route of the hike, you will walk through the villages that have disappeared from the maps, observing the rich change of landscapes. From overgrown hills to bare plains, lakes with the startling 42-meter-deep pits, to swamps that began to form 10,000 years ago – all of Lithuania can be found here. The most enduring will be rewarded with views from Šiaule Observation Tower. There is a legend about the formation of the hill which can be found here – according to local stories, the mountain was formed after the old church was covered with sand.
