A special treat: ride the historic Siaurukas (narrow-gauge railway)! This year, we’re celebrating 125 years of our legendary Siaurukas (narrow-gauge railway)! Start at the historic Anykščiai railway station. If you take the train, you’ll cross a charming bridge over the Anykšta River, then follow the left bank of the Šventoji River, one of the town’s most scenic spots, all the way to the Antanas Baranauskas Bridge. If you walk the entire route, your journey begins with the Antanas Baranauskas and Antanas Vienuolis-Žukauskas Memorial Museum. Either way, your path will take you past Lithuania’s tallest church, St. Matthew’s, and into the Dainuva Valley, where the surrounding pine forests make for the perfect nature escape.
Want a refreshing break from routine? This route offers serene nature and scenic river bends. Walk along the Šventoji River’s left bank to the Tree Canopy Walkway, enjoying breathtaking landscapes along the way. Your adventure continues past the legendary Puntukas Boulder before crossing a hanging bridge to reach the mysterious Queen’s Swamp. Keep an eye on the water—if you see ripples, legend has it that a restless ancient priestess still stirs beneath the surface!
Taking the Siaurukas (narrow-gauge railway) gives you beautiful views of the Šventoji River’s left bank, but if you walk the full route, you’ll reach one of Anykščiai’s hidden gems—the Quartz Quarry Pond. The path then leads past St. Matthew’s Church, the Tree Canopy Walkway, and Puntukas Boulder, winding through green valleys and along the riverbanks. The journey ends at the Valley of Kisses, a romantic hideaway—hopefully, you’ll have someone to share it with!
This diverse route takes you from the railway station through the most scenic spots along the Šventoji River, across the hanging bridge, and along the slopes of the Šventoji River’s oxbow lakes. Along the way, you’ll pass the Valley of Kisses, the Queen’s Swamp, and enter the legendary Anykščiai Pinewood, one of Lithuania’s most beautiful forests. Its tranquility has inspired generations of Lithuanian artists—maybe it will do the same for you!
This ultimate challenge starts at the railway station and the Siaurukas (narrow-gauge railway) Museum, then heads north of Anykščiai through Andrioniškis, leading to one of Lithuania’s largest and oldest forests—the Šimoniai Forest. The trail features the Variaus Exposure, a geological wonder, the siaurukas (narrow-gauge railway) bridge, and countless natural marvels. With so much beauty along the way, you’ll want to keep your camera (and legs!) ready!
