When we look at the “old” cities, we probably often forget that the youngest cities have something to offer as well. Visaginas is no exception – diverse, interesting and little explored, but once you’re here you’ll fall in love for a long time.
That’s why, on 25 February, we invite you to lift the veil of mystery and embark on your first (or maybe not?) encounter with a city that will transport you to another time. On the 13, 21 and 31 km routes, you’ll get to know the lakes and pine forests around Visaginas, without losing sight of its unique architecture.
ROUTE INFORMATION
13 km: city in the forest, forest in the city! As you walk, you can observe how the atomic city is replaced by a forest, which later gives way again to the concrete that rises from the dense pine forests. Such a unique harmony between nature and architecture can only be found in Visaginas. In the realm of wet pine forests, you’ll also find lakes lying peacefully. Don’t forget to count them! Back in the city, you can solve the riddle: Are there more lakes or more private houses in Visaginas?
21 km: the lake dance mania! Visaginas, Kukuizė, Baltas, Karačiunka, Aklažeris, Trilypis, Gyvatynas, Skaidrys, Žiežulinis, Smalvas… And how many more nameless ones! The realm of lakes and pines is like a medical SPA. Here the fresh forest air will refresh your lungs, the soft rustling of the pines will lull you to sleep and the gentle waves of the lakes will soothe your body and soul. Take your time, stop, admire and enjoy just being here!
31 km: the atomic route! For those who dare to choose the longest route, Visaginas has a lot to offer: the concrete jungle, the pine forests that shape the sky, the spectacular lakes. But, the brightest stars of the route are the four giants of the region: Visaginas – popular among locals, Dūkštas – famous for its forested islands, Šventas – a realm of rare plants and animals, and Smalvas – surrounded by forests. It’ll be a feast for the eyes!
