Kilometers of fun on foot: Coastline trek goes to Liepaja
Laughter, tears, pride, peace… The whole range of emotions that comes with reaching a long-held goal. For some it’s a small one, for others it’s a big one, but we all share the desire to have a good time with like-minded people and take a breath while admiring the breathtaking nature.
After exploring Lithuania’s beaches, our biggest challenge of the year is coming up in neighboring Latvia. We’ll symbolically celebrate Baltic Valentine’s Day – May 13 – in Liepaja, fall in love with golden beaches and dense pine forests, and break away from the daily grind on the 8, 16, 25, 50, 75 and 100 km routes.

ROUTE INFORMATION
Start/Finish – Zvejnieku aleja 11A, Liepāja, LV-3401, Latvia (GPS: 56.509324, 20.992820).
Opening of the summer season! A route balanced for those looking for fun and no challenges. It’s easy for hikers of all ages, from children to seniors. Unique Art Nouveau buildings, swaying pine forests, the Baltic Sea announcing the summer and the Wind Pavilion that suddenly appears somewhere on the beach along the way. It is a photogenic work by a Latvian artist using old windows and doors.
The mission is to tame hiking! Are you convinced that walking is not for you? Or is this just your first hike? We’ve prepared a route that will show you the most interesting corners of Liepaja without tiring you out. After enjoying the view of the sea and “waving” pine forests, make your way to a unique landmark – Liepaja Southern Fort. Once a defensive fortress, it is now a ghost of the past that history buffs will enjoy exploring in more detail.
Sea, sand, forest, lake! We’ve packed all the beauty of the awakening nature into this route. Listen for the return of the birds, catch the ever brighter rays of the sun, watch the buds decorating the branches of the trees and enjoy the serenade of the Baltic Sea. On the day of the hike it will be played exclusively for you.
Half a hundred! If you find the stories of “centurions” exciting, but you’re not yet ready to do it yourself, we have a solution. Half a hundred is a serious challenge that will toughen you up for longer hikes in the future. And to make sure you don’t get bored, there are a number of interesting sights to see along the way, perhaps the most impressive of which is the lagoon-like Lake Liepaja. It’s a great place not only to see the newly green meadows, but also to listen to the birds singing back from their long trip.
Beach expert! Liepaja became famous as a resort in the 1960s, when aristocrats from all over Europe flocked here for holidays. Today, nothing has changed. In summer, the blue flag flies and the fluffy snow-like sands delight the feet of vacationers. It will take care of hikers’ tired feet and reward some of them. Be observant – you may find Baltic gold – amber – hidden in the sand.
The test of the year! The bravest will reach the Bernati Nature Park and admire Cape Bernati, Latvia’s westernmost point of land, while continuing their hike to see dunes reminiscent of Egyptian landscapes. From the highest of them, Pūsēnu kalns, you will have views worth 100 kilometers! As you move further and further away from the start, you will eventually reach the halfway point. There, the Pape Lighthouse, the closest to the sea of all Latvian lighthouses, will patiently await you, as it has for 100 years. It will greet you halfway through your hike and see you off towards the dreamed-for 100.
